With the growing popularity of flagpoles in Lithuania, there is a need for a wider range of flags. An average size of the flag is 1 x 1.7 m. The flag of this size looks great on a 6 m long pole. However, when it is raised on a 10 m or 12 m high pole, it seems disproportionately small. In this case, we do not need to “reinvent the bicycle” The northern European countries have long distinguished flag sizes depending on the height of the pole.In addition, we have a flag protocol in the Republic of Lithuania, which states that the width of the flag should be 1/6 to 1/4 of the height of the pole. In other words, if the pole is 6 m high, then the width of the flag should be 1 – 1.5 m.

The standard sizes of the Lithuanian national flags we produce are shown in the table below. The following table also gives recommendations on the size of the flags we offer to hang on different height poles. The recommendations are based on the Lithuanian National Flag Protocol.

Flag pole height, m

Recommended flag size, m

6

1,00 x 1,67

7

1,50 x 2,50

8

1,50 x 2,50

9

1,50 x 2,50

10

2,00 x 3,33

11

2,00 x 3,33

12

2,00 x 3,33

13

2,50 x 4,17

14

2,50 x 4,17

16

3,00 x 5,00

18

3,00 x 5,00

However, we often hear the question of whether it is possible to choose a different flag size for the height of the pole. It is allowed.
As we have mentioned before, it is important that the limits of the prescribed proportions are observed – the height of the flag must be 1/6 to 1/4 of the height of the pole.
Therefore, the table below shows what size of flags you can raise on the pole, without violating the flag protocol.

Flag dimensions, m

Recommended pole height, m

1,00 x 1,67

6

1,50 x 2,50

6, 7, 8, 9

2,00 x 3,33

8, 9, 10, 11, 12

2,50 x 5,00

10, 11, 12, 13, 14

3,00 x 5,00

12, 13, 14, 16, 18

As you can see from the table, for example. On a 12 m high pole you can raise both 2.00 x 3.33 m and 2.50 x 5.00 m and 3.00 x 5.00 m flags. In all cases, the flag protocol requirements will be met. So, which option you choose, you decide for yourself.
